What Does a Chimney Inspection Cover?

The byproduct of enjoying a crackling flame is creosote buildup (the major cause of chimney fires) and soot, which can restrict air flow and damage the fireplace chimney. The chimney flue can also become blocked by a bird’s nest or other debris. An annual chimney inspection checks for buildup and blockages, followed by sweeping to remove problems inhibiting performance.

Level One Inspection

Once your chimney flue has been cleaned and any debris removed, we will perform a visual check of the fireplace and chimney without any special equipment. We will use a powerful flashlight to look for damage, obstructions, creosote buildup and soot in the smoke chamber and other visible parts of the flue.  We will also examine the exterior of the chimney for any damage if we can safely get on the roof with our ladders.

Level Two Inspection

We recommend this inspection during a change in property ownership or after a chimney fire. It’s also recommended if you have any leakage or other problems with your chimney. A closed-circuit camera system may be used to complete a Level Two Inspection. The camera is used to inspect the condition of the interior of the flue. You will receive a detailed written report outlining any areas of concern.

Level Three Inspection

A level three inspection is considered “destructive and intrusive” and can resemble a demolition job. It may involve tearing down and rebuilding walls and your chimney. It is usually done after a chimney fire. Our team of professionals will take care to not disrupt the rest of your space while repairing and rebuilding your fireplace and chimney.
